Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Thursday addressed an event dedicated to the International Day of the Seafarer, highlighting the country’s longstanding maritime traditions and the important role seafarers play in Georgia’s development.
According to the President, Georgians have always been part of global navigation, noting that the history of advanced shipbuilding and trade corridors on Georgian territory dates back to the era of the ancient Colchian civilization.
“Today, Georgia is reclaiming its historic role and establishing itself as a key regional trade and transit corridor, a logistics hub, and a platform for peace. In this process, your role becomes even more invaluable – you are the living ambassadors of our country on the world’s waters, carrying Georgia’s name, flag, and dignity onto the international stage,” Kavelashvili told the gathered seafarers.
The President thanked both those attending the event and Georgian sailors currently serving on long-distance voyages, emphasising that their professionalism is a cornerstone of the country’s economic development and strength.
