Georgian President pardons 49 people on St. George’s Day

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Sunday pardoned 49 individuals in connection with the celebration of St. George’s Day.

The President’s press office said the decree applied to 14 individuals serving non-custodial sentences and 34 inmates serving prison terms. In addition, one person had their criminal record expunged.

“The President of Georgia exercised the exclusive constitutional authority granted to him, based on the principle of humanitarianism and in the interest of the state,” the statement reads.
