Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Tuesday issued a formal decree

Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili has issued a formal decree setting the date for the country’s next local self-government elections. According to the presidential order, municipal and mayoral elections will be held across Georgia on 4 October.

The decree, signed jointly by President Kavelashvili and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, was made in accordance with Article 52 of the Georgian Constitution and Articles 133.1 and 133.2 of the country’s Election Code.

The elections will determine the composition of municipal councils (sakrebulos) and elect mayors in both self-governing cities and communities throughout Georgia.
