Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Wednesday congratulated the country’s Muslim community on the occasion of Eid al-Adha during a visit to the central mosque in Tbilisi.

The President’s press office said Kavelashvili addressed worshippers gathered at the mosque and spoke about the importance of religious coexistence and mutual respect in Georgia.

“Georgia is proud that people of different faiths have lived together in our country for centuries,” the President said, describing Georgia as a country distinguished by peaceful interfaith relations and solidarity.

Kavelashvili also thanked Muslim citizens for the support shown during the mourning period following the death of Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, recalling that Muslim communities had limited Novruz celebrations to prayers out of respect.
