President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili held a formal meeting with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican, marking a key moment in Georgia–Holy See relations.

During the meeting, President Kavelashvili extended his heartfelt congratulations to Pope Leo XIV on his recent election as head of the Catholic Church. He praised the beginning of the new pontificate as “a symbol of hope for the future, spiritual renewal, and unity for the entire world.”

According to the President's Administration, the two leaders discussed the current state of relations between Georgia and the Holy See, as well as opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

President Kavelashvili emphasized that the close partnership is built on shared Christian values, which form a strong foundation for collaboration and mutual understanding.

He also expressed gratitude to the Holy See for its continued support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In turn, Pope Leo XIV highlighted the importance of global peace and reaffirmed the Vatican’s readiness to deepen its partnership with Georgia.

President Kavelashvili extended a formal invitation to His Holiness to visit Georgia, underscoring the nation’s appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church’s moral and spiritual leadership.
