President Mikheil Kavelashvili has appointed Giorgi Modebadze as a judge of the Constitutional Court of Georgia, the Presidential Administration announced.
Modebadze brings many years of experience in the judicial system and has also served as First Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth, the President’s press office said.
Under Article 60 of the Georgian Constitution, the Constitutional Court is composed of nine judges appointed for a 10-year term - three appointed by the President, three elected by Parliament with at least a three-fifths majority, and three appointed by the Supreme Court.
Modebadze’s appointment follows the early termination of judge Irine Imerlishvili’s mandate. Imerlishvili, who was appointed by the President in 2016, resigned voluntarily, and by the decision of the Constitutional Court’s chairperson, her powers officially ended on 20 October 2025.
