In an exclusive interview with Imedi TV, Georgia’s newly elected President, Mikheil Kavelashvili, reflected on his often direct and controversial approach to public discourse.

“In recent years, my statements may have seemed harsh to the public, but this was driven by the challenges I and my team faced in the given circumstances,” Kavelashvili said.

Addressing criticism over his past rhetoric, he stated, “Why was I sometimes radical and aggressive? It was all in service of our country’s and national interests. Honesty is part of my nature, and that will not change. However, I will continue to protect my country’s interests in a different manner.”

Kavelashvili was elected as Georgia’s President by the Electoral College on December 14. His election follows a period of significant political tension, with current President and the opposition not recognizing his legitimacy.
