Former President Mikheil Saakashvili has reflected on Georgia’s political infighting, asking why the country’s leaders failed to unite when circumstances demanded it.

“People like that managed to unite, so what went wrong with us, if there is really some kind of curse?” Saakashvili wrote on social media, referencing Malaysia’s political reconciliation between Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim as an example of overcoming past divisions.

Saakashvili also recalled his own strained relationship with Nino Burjanadze before the Rose Revolution, noting that although they did not speak for three years due to disagreements, he set aside personal grievances when the situation required unity.
