Georgia’s former president Mikheil Saakashvili has accused the opposition party Lelo – Strong Georgia of “collaboration” after it called for political negotiations with the ruling Georgian Dream.
In a social media post on Monday, Saakashvili urged Lelo to abandon what he described as “strikebreaking”, arguing that negotiations with the government could only succeed if conducted by a united opposition and from a position of strength.
“Otherwise, this is called collaboration and betrayal of the people,” he wrote, adding that only uncompromising and determined struggle could bring political change.
Saakashvili also suggested the initiative emerged at a time when opposition alliances were becoming more active, which he said was troubling for the authorities.
Earlier, Lelo – Strong Georgia said it was necessary to overcome political confrontation and begin responsible negotiations between Georgian Dream and opposition parties.
