Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has called on Bidzina Ivanishvili, the ruling party honorary chair, to release young people detained during recent protests ahead of the New Year.

Writing on social media, Saakashvili described the move as reasonable, noting that the detainees have refused to submit requests for clemency and would not pose any risk if released.

“Releasing these individuals could help ease public anger, even if only slightly,” he wrote.
