Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili wrote on social media on Monday that the ongoing investigation into alleged abuses against protesters last year, as claimed by recent BBC investigation, was superficial, effectively clearing the way for international actors to act, and accused the authorities of committing crimes against humanity.
"As expected, the investigation was completed in record time and justified everything. In reality, Ivanishvili and his accomplices have fully assumed responsibility for crimes against humanity.
The superficial nature of the investigation gives international actors an opening to act. Overall, we are dealing with barbarians who disregard human rights, health, and life to preserve their hijacked power.
Notice how their so-called Minister of Health recounted with satisfaction how citizens were tortured, beaten, and oppressed - the highest level of dehumanization. From their statements, it became clear that during my presidency, the use of such substances was officially prohibited. Later, the Georgian Dream government amended Interior Ministry Order N1002, officially allowing toxic substances to be used against peaceful people.
As for the doctors who assisted these wrongdoers, they are the same individuals who profit enormously from state programs through corruption. One of them examined me after my alleged poisoning and ignored symptoms that were later confirmed by American and European doctors. These medical professionals are an inseparable part of oppression and wrongdoing and must be held accountable.
Regarding myself, the Council of Europe’s Committee for the Prevention of Torture concluded that the decisions were made not by doctors, but by state security agencies. I believe the same applies to everyone else," Saakashvili wrote.
