Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on Friday warned on social media that if Russian President Vladimir Putin refuses reconciliation in Budapest, significantly more American military aid will flow to Ukraine, and the US will fully mobilise to ensure Ukraine’s military success.

Saakashvili noted the upcoming meeting between the US President Donald Trump and Putin in Budapest will take place under enormous pressure from the Americans.

“Trump has planned a new meeting with Putin, but if it happens, it will no longer be in Alaska. The Budapest meeting will take place under immense American pressure. Ukraine is bombing Russian territory with US-provided coordinates. Trump has pressured India, Russia’s second-largest oil buyer after China, to stop buying Russian oil by the end of the year, and Ukraine is very close to receiving Tomahawk missiles.

If Putin refuses reconciliation in Budapest, much more American weaponry will enter Ukraine, and the US will mobilise fully for Ukraine’s military victory,” Saakashvili wrote.

On Thursday, Trump and Putin held another phone call. Following the discussion, the US leader confirmed he agreed to meet Putin in Budapest. Preparatory talks between US and Russian officials are scheduled for next week.
