Georgia’s third president, Mikheil Saakashvili, has commented on the arrest of former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, calling it another example of injustice linked to ruling Georgian Dream founder Bidzina Ivanishvili.

In a social media post, Saakashvili drew a comparison between his own conviction and Garibashvili’s case. He recalled that he was accused of “misappropriation” in the so-called jackets case involving ₾8.4 million (around $3 million), which he said were official expenses during official visits, and was sentenced to nine years in prison.

Saakashvili claimed that in Garibashvili’s case, $6 million allegedly found at his home was treated far more leniently, resulting in a five-year sentence, which he believes will be reduced soon.

“Those who are happy about Garibashvili being jailed are not understanding what is really happening. In reality, this is another injustice by Ivanishvili,” Saakashvili wrote.
