Georgian health minister attends US-backed regional meeting on strengthening flu vaccination programmes

Georgian Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze has attended the opening of a regional meeting of the Partnership for Influenza Vaccine Introduction (PIVI) in Georgia, an event supported by the United States and aimed at strengthening vaccination programmes and preparedness for future health threats.

Speaking at the event, Sarjveladze said active cooperation in the field was important for strengthening Georgia’s Health Ministry and healthcare system, as well as partnerships between countries.

US Chargé d’Affaires Alan Purcell also addressed participants.

The three-day event includes workshops and panel discussions on influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and other respiratory diseases.

Representatives from different countries and public health experts will share their experience and discuss plans for more effective management of respiratory diseases and ways to strengthen cooperation.

Representatives of the World Health Organization and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as local experts and other invited guests, are taking part in the meeting.
