Georgia, WHO Europe discuss healthcare reforms and future cooperation

Georgia’s Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze met with the World Health Organization’s Europe regional director Hans Kluge to discuss ongoing healthcare reforms and future cooperation between Georgia and the WHO regional office.
The talks focused on strengthening primary healthcare, the universal healthcare programme, improving access to medicines, treatment for rare diseases and regional cooperation in the health sector.
Kluge positively assessed the reforms underway in Georgia’s healthcare system, saying that efforts to strengthen primary healthcare and the current changes were contributing to improved quality of services and the long-term sustainability of the system.
The meeting also underlined the importance of Georgia’s partnership with the World Health Organization and both sides expressed readiness to deepen cooperation further in the future.
Chair of parliament’s healthcare and social issues committee Zaza Lominadze and Georgia’s permanent representative to the UN Office and other international organisations in Geneva Aleksandre Maisuradze also attended the meeting.
