Georgia’s Minister of Health, Mikheil Sarjveladze, has met senior representatives of the World Bank to review ongoing and planned reforms in the country’s healthcare system, his office announced on Friday.
The meeting included the World Bank’s Regional Director, Rolande Pryce, and Rekha Menon, alongside other officials.
Talks focused on strengthening primary healthcare, improving the quality of medical services, and increasing access for the population. Both sides also discussed broader areas of cooperation and future priorities in the health sector.
Particular attention was given to Georgia’s system of reference pricing for medicines. The mechanism, along with the work of the relevant commission overseeing it, was positively assessed during the discussions. Officials said it contributes to greater transparency in the pharmaceutical market, supports fair pricing, and helps safeguard patient interests.
The importance of human capital development was also highlighted as a key factor in the country’s long-term socio-economic progress.
The World Bank reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting Georgia’s reforms and development efforts across multiple sectors, the Ministry of Health said.
