Georgian Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze has said that foreign medical specialists will be brought to Georgia if necessary, as Patriarch Ilia II continues to receive treatment in intensive care.
Speaking about the Patriarch’s condition Tuesday, Sarjveladze said there had been no significant change and that he remained under close and constant medical supervision at the Caucasus Medical Centre.
He noted that leading intensivists and heads of critical care units from major medical institutions were already involved in consultations, with efforts focused on gathering a wide range of expert opinions to improve treatment outcomes.
“At this stage, transferring the Patriarch abroad is not being considered given his condition. However, if there is any need to bring in foreign doctors, this will be ensured immediately. Everything necessary is being done to provide the best possible care,” the minister said.
Sarjveladze added that while standard medical protocols were being followed, authorities were also exploring additional resources and expertise that could further improve the situation.
He further stressed that the Patriarch’s condition remained serious, noting that intensive care by definition reflected a critical state, and called for continued public support and prayers as efforts to stabilise his health continue.
