Georgian Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze on Tuesday said the government is continuing work on both the assessment of medications and the improvement of social support mechanisms, as discussions continue around treatments for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Speaking to journalists, Sarjveladze said a multidisciplinary approach is being planned not only for Duchenne patients but also for those suffering from other neuromuscular conditions.

“We are continuing work both on the evaluation of medications and on addressing broader social issues,” he said, noting that the Ministry is assessing available information on treatments alongside wider support needs.

Sarjveladze also warned about the risks of inflated expectations surrounding certain medications, particularly in relation to claims made by pharmaceutical companies.

“Globally, there is growing discussion about the risks linked to exaggerated expectations and promises made by pharmaceutical companies. Unfortunately, this is neither the first nor the last case where such concerns may arise,” he said.

He stressed that such factors must be carefully considered in decision-making, with a focus on evidence-based outcomes rather than unverified claims.
