During a press briefing, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller reaffirmed the United States’ support for the Georgian people, expressing deep concern over the actions taken by the Georgian government that deviate from the path of European integration.

“We are troubled by steps taken by the Georgian government to move away from greater integration with Europe,” Miller stated, highlighting the importance of Georgia’s democratic and pro-European aspirations.

When asked about the possibility of further sanctions, Miller refrained from making specific predictions, noting, “As you know, we do not preview sanctions from this podium. However, when we have announcements to make regarding sanctions, we make them.”

The spokesperson also pointed to actions the U.S. has already taken in response to the Georgian government’s recent decisions. “We have already imposed sanctions against certain Georgian government officials, implemented visa restrictions, and withheld $95 million in assistance. These measures underscore our concerns about their actions steering away from European integration,” Miller emphasized.
