Georgian State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality Tea Akhvlediani says that ‘destructive actions’ of Russian-controlled occupation forces pose threats to human life and health.

Making a speech in parliament earlier today, Akhvlediani responded to the case of Genadi Bestaev, who was illegally detained and then convicted by the de facto government of Tskhinvali back in 2019.

Bestaev had a stroke earlier this week and he was transported to the Tbilisi-controlled territory from Tskhinvali prison, where he was ‘serving his term’ for illegally crossing the border and drug trafficking.

hIs health is critical.

The occupation forces made a barbed-wire-fence in Bestaev’s yard and illegally detained him ‘for crossing the border’ near his home.

Akhvlediani says that the pandemic period has been ‘particularly complicated’ for the individuals living in Russian occupied Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali as the occupation forces closed so-called checkpoints and locals were unable to buy everyday products on the Tbilisi-controlled territory or necessary medical services.
