Georgia and Tajikistan have agreed to strengthen cooperation within the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and other international organisations to promote peace, stability and security, according to a joint communiqué issued on Friday following talks between Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.
The communiqué states that both sides reaffirmed their support for the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and recognised the organisation’s central and irreplaceable role in addressing international challenges.
The two countries also pledged to further strengthen cooperation in tackling global threats, including terrorism, extremism, illicit drug trafficking, cybercrime and transnational organised crime.
According to the document, the parties stressed the importance of coordinated efforts in confronting security challenges and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration on issues of mutual interest at the international level.
The commitments were outlined in a joint communiqué adopted during Kobakhidze’s official visit to Tajikistan, which focused on broadening bilateral cooperation and enhancing political dialogue between the two countries.
