More die from coronavirus in Georgia in 2021 than from cancer

More people died from coronavirus in Georgia last year than from cancer, the National Statistics Office of Georgia said on Thursday.

The highest mortality was related to the following five causes in 2021:

Diseases of the circulatory system – 22, 156

Coronavirus – 11, 280

Tumors – 7, 640

Symptoms, signs and deviations from the norm detected by clinical and laboratory tests – 7, 350

Respiratory diseases – 3, 709

Georgia confirmed its first case of coronavirus on February 26, 2020.

The virus has claimed 16,839 lives so far.
