More than one million GEL withheld from salaries of 59 MPs in 10th convocation of parliament – TI Georgia

A total of GEL 1,105,617.42 was withheld from the salaries of 59 MPs as a disciplinary sanction, Transparency International Georgia said in its report released on Tuesday on the activities of the 10th convocation of the state legislature, covering the period between December 1,2020 and December 31 of 2021.

 

The organisation stated that GEL 766,860. was spent on working trips abroad taken by 47 MPs in the reported period.

 

It stated that the  right of legislative initiative was not exercised by 53 members of the Parliament,while the right to speech was not exercised by 21  MPs; 10 of which were the representatives of the majority and 11 of the opposition.

 

In the reporting period, 12 MPs (including 11 from the opposition and 1 from the majority) did not exercise either the right to speak or the right to legislative initiative, one of them was a member of the majority: Sumbat Kiureghiani, and 11 were  members of the opposition, said TI Georgia.
