Maria Zakharova, the official representative of Russia’s foreign office, on Thursday claimed the European Union’s allegations against Russia of killing Georgian citizen Tamaz Ginturi near the occupied Tskhinvali (South Ossetia) region, in central Georgia, this week were “shocking, biased and fake”.

“The EU does not pay attention to the obvious facts and broad explanations of the Ossetian side. The most shocking thing is that they are trying to transfer the responsibility for the incident to Russia without appeal in Brussels. These politicised, one-sided, assessments are fake. All this shows the open bias and commitment of the EU”, she said.

Ginturi, a participant of the Russia-Georgia 2008 war, was reportedly killed by the Russian-controlled occupation forces following his attempts to open a church door illegally blocked by occupation forces last month.

Another local with him was illegally detained and still remains in Tskhinvali prison.

The de facto Tskhinvali claimed the individuals “disobeyed  border guards” and were “under the influence of alcohol”.

Relatives said Ginturi had two gunshots in his back and his car was also damaged.
