A Moscow court has sentenced Ekaterina Kotrikadze, head of the news department and anchor at the independent Russian channel Dozhd, to eight years in prison in absentia.

Kotrikadze, who no longer resides in Russia, was found guilty of spreading what Russian authorities described as “fake information” about the Russian military.

Following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Dozhd was designated an “undesirable organization” in Russia, and multiple staff members, including Kotrikadze, were labeled “foreign agents.”

The channel has since halted broadcasting from Russia and now operates from Amsterdam.
