The Georgian Road Departments on Tuesday said it had closed a section on Rikoti pass – connecting the country’s eastern and western parts – for all types of vehicles due to the rock fall.

“Due to a small rock fall on the 147th km of the Tbilisi-Senaki-Leselidze highway, there is a need to clean the road. As a result, on the 114-194 km section of the said road (Akhalsopli traffic junction-Zestafoni) all kinds of traffic temporarily banned”, said the agency.

It claimed the road would be reopened as soon as necessary works were complete.

The section is particularly busy during the Easter Holiday, when the population migrates from the capital to the regions.

Georgia marks Easter on the weekend.
