A group of prominent global women leaders has issued an open letter to the international community expressing solidarity with the Georgian people and President Salome Zourabichvili amidst ongoing political turmoil in Georgia.

The letter, signed by figures such as Hillary Clinton, Helen Clark, Dalia Grybauskaitė, and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, highlights recent anti-democratic actions by Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party, including suspending EU accession talks, violently suppressing peaceful protests, and allegedly orchestrating fraudulent parliamentary elections. The leaders describe these actions as direct violations of Georgia’s Constitution and a betrayal of the Georgian people’s aspirations for Euro-Atlantic integration.

The signatories praise President Zourabichvili for her steadfast support of democratic principles, calling her “the sole legitimate leader” in a country where democratic norms have been undermined. They commend her courage in opposing the ruling party’s actions and aligning with the will of the Georgian people.

The letter urges the international community—particularly the EU and other multilateral organizations—to provide immediate support for President Zourabichvili and Georgian civil society.

“Georgia is not an isolated case,” the letter states. “It is a critical battleground in the global struggle between authoritarianism and democracy.”

This letter comes as over 200,000 Georgians have taken to the streets to protest the government’s recent decisions, demanding a return to a democratic and European path.
