State flags have been lowered on government buildings across Georgia following the death of Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.

The Government Administration building, the Presidential Palace, as well as administrative buildings in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and municipalities nationwide, have lowered flags in observance of the declared period of national mourning.

The decision follows a government decree issued after the passing of Ilia II, who also held the titles of Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi and Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia.

Ilia II died on March 17 at the age of 93.
