October 25 declared public holiday in Georgia

The Government of Georgia has announced that Friday, October 25, will be a public holiday following a request from the Central Election Commission (CEC).

The government’s administration stated that the decision was made to ensure the smooth preparation of polling stations ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26.

“Many polling stations are located in public schools and kindergartens, where regular weekday activities could potentially hinder the timely setup of election materials,” the statement reads.

The CEC emphasized that setting up polling stations is a crucial step for the proper functioning of precinct election commissions. Equipment and other necessary materials will be installed on October 25, just one day before the election.

Out of the 3,031 polling stations in Georgia, 483 are located in kindergartens, 1,675 in public schools, and 873 in other facilities. The CEC highlighted that regular weekday activities at these locations could disrupt the setup process, which led to the request for a public holiday to ensure a calm and organized environment for election preparations.
