A body has been recovered from the Mtkvari River near Metekhi Bridge in Tbilisi after a car plunged into the water, emergency services have confirmed.

Rescue teams discovered the body after extracting the vehicle following a search lasting several hours.

It remains unclear how many people were inside the car at the time of the incident.

Special equipment was used to retrieve the vehicle from the river, and authorities are continuing their investigation.
