126 packages of methadone seized as police arrest suspect in central Georgia

Georgian police have seized 126 packages of the narcotic substance methadone and arrested a man born in 1985 in the Shida Kartli region on suspicion of illegal possession and facilitating the distribution of drugs in particularly large quantities, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has said.
According to the ministry, officers from the Kareli district police division detained the suspect - identified only as g.e. - following an operation based on prior intelligence.
Police said that, in addition to the packaged narcotics found during the search of his vehicle and belongings, further materials used for drug packaging and an electronic scale were seized from the suspect’s home.
The investigation is ongoing under articles 260 and 260⁴ of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which carry sentences of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
