Police in Tbilisi have arrested two individuals on suspicion of illegal possession and distribution of narcotic drugs in particularly large quantities, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.

The suspects are a previously convicted man born in 1965, identified as I.V., and a Romanian citizen born in 2004, identified as A.N. They were detained at different times by officers from the Tbilisi Main Division of the Patrol Police Department.

Officers conducted searches of the suspects and their residences in the capital. During the operations, police seized large quantities of drugs prepared for sale, including methadone and alpha-PVP, which were taken as evidence.

Authorities also recovered materials used for packaging narcotics.

The offences carry penalties of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
