Three detained in Tbilisi on drug-related charges

Police have detained three individuals in the Georgian capital city of Tbilisi on charges related to drug crimes, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Sunday.

The Ministry added officers from the Tbilisi Police Department’s Gldani-Nadzaladevi, Vake-Saburtalo and Isani-Samgori main divisions, along with representatives of the Kakheti Police Department, carried out the arrests at different times. The suspects are accused of the illegal acquisition and possession of, as well as facilitating the sale of, particularly large quantities of narcotic substances.

Law enforcement officers seized large amounts of drugs prepared for sale during searches of the suspects’ personal belongings and residential properties, as well as from various locations. The confiscated substances included dried marijuana and MDMA.

The crime is punishable by up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
