Five individuals have been arrested in Tbilisi on suspicion of committing serious drug-related offences, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced.

The body on Thursday said the officers from the Didube-Chughureti and Vake-Saburtalo divisions of the Tbilisi Police Department had carried out a series of operations and investigative measures leading to the arrests.

The suspects - identified as T.Sh. (b. 2002), M.J. (b. 2006), A.K. (b. 2003), R.Ch. (b. 2002), and L.K. (b. 1989), who has a previous conviction - face charges including the illegal purchase and storage of narcotics in particularly large quantities, preparation for sale, and attempted sale. The substances in question include methadone and dried marijuana.

Searches of the individuals’ residences and belongings, as well as an investigative experiment, led to the seizure of narcotic substances allegedly intended for sale. Police also confiscated packaging materials, including adhesive tape and polyethylene bags.

The suspects face potential prison sentences ranging from up to 20 years to life imprisonment if found guilty.
