Ukrainian citizen arrested in Georgia on large-scale drug trafficking charges

The charges carry penalties of up to 20 years or life imprisonment

Georgia’s Interior Ministry on Thursday said officers from the Central Criminal Police Department, together with the Revenue Service’s Customs Department, had arrested a Ukrainian citizen on charges of large-scale drug trafficking.
The suspect, identified as H.D., born in 1992, has been accused of illegally purchasing, possessing and importing into Georgia particularly large quantities of narcotic and psychotropic substances.
According to the ministry, during a search of the suspect’s hand luggage, law enforcement officers discovered drugs hidden inside tins of infant formula. The seized substances included more than 760 grams of MDMA, 762 grams of clephedrone and over half a kilogram of the psychotropic substance ketamine.
An investigation is under way under Articles 260, 261, 262 and 263 of Georgia’s Criminal Code. The charges carry penalties of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
