MEP Loiseau calls for debate on election irregularities in Georgia

European Parliament member Nathalie Loiseau has called for urgent discussions in Parliament regarding the recent parliamentary elections in Georgia, claiming she and six of her colleagues observed significant fraud and intimidation when observing the process on October 26.

Speaking during a plenary session on Wednesday, Loiseau reported that during their election monitoring mission, they witnessed disturbing practices that compromised the integrity of the electoral process.

“We saw fraud and intimidation. Therefore, I want to hold debates here in Parliament about this issue,” she stressed.

Highlighting the expectations of the Georgian people from the European Union, Loiseau expressed disappointment that the European Council did not allocate time to discuss these matters during its recent meeting.

“What is happening now in Georgia, including protests with people carrying Georgian and European flags, shows that they are looking for support from the EU,” she noted.

The MEP further stressed that the Parliament must not only debate these issues but also pass a resolution to clearly express its position.

“We are a house of democracy, and we must find time not only to discuss what is happening in Georgia but also to take action,” she added.
