Natia Mezvrishvili, the deputy chairperson of the Gakharia For Georgia opposition party, on Tuesday claimed “it is inevitable” for the European Union and the United States to take “decisive action” against the Georgian Dream Government.

Speaking about the country’s political landscape, she stressed both the EU and the US “possess robust legal and political instruments that will likely be employed, whether before or after the upcoming elections”.

Mezvrishvili suggested the Georgian Government “should prepare for more than just warnings from the West”.

“We should expect more serious statements and steps”, the former high-ranking official alleged, noting both Western powers had already moved beyond mere rhetoric. “We have seen not only messages from the US, but also actions. We have seen not only messages from the EU, but also actions such as the suspension of very important financial aid”.

According to reports in foreign media, the EU is poised to issue a warning that Georgia’s ruling party “poses a threat” to the country’s aspirations for European integration.
