The NATO Parliamentary Assembly has condemned Russia’s illegal actions in Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova in its recently adopted resolution.
The resolution has expressed concern about the ‘grave human rights violations and ethnic discrimination’ against Georgians in the Russian-occupied territories of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali and pointed at the necessity of implementation of the EU-mediated ceasefire agreement by Russia.
The resolution called for further support for the efforts of Georgia and Ukraine to accelerate their process of Euro-Atlantic integration, to signal solidarity with Georgia and Ukraine through increased joint exercises and practical support to their ability to defend themselves.
Russia recognised the two Georgian regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali as independent states after the Russia-Georgia 2008 war.
Since then only Venezuela, Nicaragua, Nauru and Syria have recognised the regions as independent states.
The rest of the international community is unanimous in that the regions are occupied by Russia.
