The defense ministers of the member countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization have decided to expand the NATO training mission in Iraq, which Ukraine intends to join.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said this at a press conference in Brussels after a two-day meeting of NATO defense ministers.

In particular, according to him, the number of the mission will be increased from 500 people to about 4 thousand.

As part of the mission, NATO troops will train and train more Iraqi security personnel, and not only in Baghdad.

The increase in the number of troops of NATO countries will be gradual, and their presence will be regulated taking into account the security situation in the country.

Stoltenberg recalled that the training mission of the Alliance is in Iraq at the request of the government of this country, and its activities are carried out with respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq.
