Nikoloz Chitadze, a political analyst interviewed by Front News, emphasized the primary requirement of NATO, which he said mandated the member countries ensure the rule of law.

In comments on NATO Secretary General’s visit to Tbilisi on Monday, he highlighted the official would advocate for the upcoming 2024 elections to be conducted democratically.

Chitadze underscored that while NATO operated as a military geopolitical bloc focused on collective security and principles, it also prioritized the establishment of democratic governance within member states.

“Article 78 of the Georgian Constitution delineates the country’s foreign policy objectives, notably aspiring for NATO and European Union membership. Stoltenberg’s visit to Georgia will naturally involve discussions with the authorities, including a call for democratic conduct in the forthcoming elections.

While NATO’s presence in Georgia for exercises is welcomed, it’s imperative for the country to demonstrate substantial progress towards democracy. This responsibility lies primarily with the government and society,” Chitadze elaborated.
