Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), has called on the Russian Federation to stop the buildup of troops near Ukraine's borders.
According to UNIAN, Stoltenberg said this at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba in Brussels before the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Commission.
"We are seriously concerned about the current development of events, and NATO is monitoring the situation very closely. In recent weeks, Russia has moved thousands of combat-ready military personnel to the borders of Ukraine – this is the largest concentration of Russian troops since the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014," Stoltenberg said.
He also said that in recent days, several Ukrainian soldiers have died in eastern Ukraine.
"I want to express my condolences in connection with the recent losses suffered by the Armed Forces of Ukraine," Stoltenberg stressed.
In his opinion, Russia's significant military build-up of forces is unjustified, unjustified and causes deep concern.
"Russia must stop this buildup of troops in and around Ukraine, stop its provocations and immediately reduce tensions," Stoltenberg stressed.
