In response to the recent developments following the parliamentary elections in Georgia, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has expressed deep concern over Russia’s „increasing hybrid operations” in the EU’s neighborhood. He emphasized that the Kremlin’s actions aim to undermine the democratic processes in both Georgia and Moldova noting that recent parliamentary elections in Georgia and a referendum in Moldova are evidence of this interference
“Russia is intensifying its hybrid operations in the EU neighborhood…The Kremlin doesn’t want Georgia and Moldova to determine their own future and does everything possible to disrupt democratic processes,” Nausėda stated.
He called on the European Union to stand firm in its support of civil society in these countries, stressing the importance of not abandoning the aspirations of the Georgian and Moldovan people. “For the EU, it is crucial not to abandon the people of Georgia and Moldova. We cannot let their European dream drift away. We must support civil society and ensure that the people’s voices are decisive in determining the future of their countries,” he added.
Nausėda reaffirmed Lithuania’s solidarity with Georgia and Moldova, stating, “Lithuania firmly stands with the people of Georgia and Moldova in their aspiration to join the EU. He underlined that Georgia and Moldova belong to the European family.
’’No one can take away their chance for a better future,” he stressed.
