NCDC head: gov’t may consider mandatory vaccination

Head of Georgia’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Amiran Gamkrelidze, says that the government may consider mandatory coronavirus vaccination to curb the spread of the virus. 

 

He stated earlier today that the vaccination rate remains low in Georgia, while daily infections are surging. Gamkrelidze also said that health workers’ involvement in the regions to persuade individuals to receive the vaccine did not work. 

 

He said that during the campaign only 1,200 individuals received the coronavirus vaccine in a week.

 

48,757 individuals remain infected with Covid-19 in Georgia as of today.

 

The country has reported 1,942 new cases of coronavirus of 22,847 tests, 4,650 recoveries and 46 deaths in the past 24 hours. 

 

1,950,693 individuals have received at least one dose of the vaccine in the country since March 2021, of which  925,169 have been completely vaccinated with Pfizer, Sinovac, Sinopharm or AstraZeneca vaccine.
