Ned Price: US firmy supports Georgia’s, Ukraine’s, Moldova’s EU aspirations

Ned Price, a spokeswoman for the US State Department, said on Tuesday that the United States, as a strategic partner, “firmly supports” the European aspirations and ambitions of Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova.

Asked how likely it was that Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova, which are currently awaiting EU candidate status, would now reach this important milestone, Price said the issue concerned the three countries and the EU, although the US supported them.

“The United States, as a strategic partner, firmly supports the European aspirations and European ambitions of these three countries. We have stood by these countries on this path since their independence and we will continue to do so,” Price said.

Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova applied for EU membership after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February. 

The trio have already submitted the EU’s self-assessment questionnaire and are waiting for the EU decision on the candidate status in the coming months.
