New German Ambassador to Georgia to take office in August

Ernst Peter Fischer will replace Hubert Knirsch as the German Ambassador to Georgia.

Fischer has tweeted that he will take office on August 1.

Previously Fischer served in the United Arab Emirates, while his earlier  position was Director for Energy and Climate Policy and Export Control at the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. 

Knirsch took office back in 2018.

He has been criticized by the local opposition for being “pro-governmental.”
