Opposition politician Nika Gvaramia has responded to criticism from Tina Bokuchava, the leader of the United National Movement, dismissing her claims about internal turbulence within his political group and calling for greater engagement from the opposition alliance's partners.
In a social media post on Friday, Gvaramia said he would welcome efforts to transform the United National Movement into what he described as a more effective political organisation.
"I will only be pleased if you are able to turn a dysfunctional organisation into a real working team," Gvaramia wrote. "I wish you success in that."
He also expressed hope that members of the alliance would play a more active role in its activities, beyond attending rallies and delivering speeches.
Gvaramia rejected suggestions that he had attacked former president Mikheil Saakashvili, saying comments made by Tamar Bagashvili on the issue were inaccurate.
In a further criticism of the UNM, Gvaramia argued that a party that had experienced several controversial leadership changes in recent years was not well placed to accuse others of internal instability.
His comments came in response to remarks by Bokuchava, who said she had been surprised by what she described as Gvaramia's attack on the UNM and suggested that his statements were linked to internal tensions within the Ahali party.
Bokuchava said she believed recent developments inside Ahali had contributed to Gvaramia's public criticism and insisted she understood what reforms were needed to strengthen the UNM further.
