Nika Gvaramia, a leader of the Coalition for Change, has stressed that any future discussions with the ruling party will not follow a Charles Michel 2 format - political mediation effort led by the former President of the European Council to resolve Georgia’s 2020-2021 political crisis - but will focus solely on clear negotiations regarding the country’s future.
Speaking about a recent meeting of domestic opposition, Gvaramia said the coalition addressed the current political situation in Georgia. He stressed that no calls for compromise or informal agreements were made.
“When friends are in prison - and not only personal friends, but many individuals I consider political prisoners - what right do we have to negotiate with anyone? There were absolutely no such calls. We repeatedly stress in all such meetings that there will be no ‘Charles Michel 2.’ Only precise discussions about the country’s fate will take place,” Gvaramia said.
He also noted that any negotiation format with the ruling party was impossible as long as actions taken by the government remained unaddressed, including laws or decisions that “entrench permanent rule.”
