Opposition leaders Nika Gvaramia and Giga Lemonjava of the Coalition for Change have renewed calls to oust the ruling government, following Gvaramia’s release from Rustavi No.12 prison after eight months in custody.
Speaking after his release on Thursday, Gvaramia, who had been jailed for failing to appear before a temporary parliamentary investigative commission, expressed concern for those still imprisoned.
“The discomfort I feel that people remain there turns into determination - we will fight to bring them out. This country cannot achieve victory without these people,” he said.
Gvaramia described “political prisoners” arrested during antigovernmental protests last year as a “tool for the regime,” asserting that fear fueled the authorities’ power.
He called for coordinated action, solidarity among opposition forces, and support for jailed politicians, including financial assistance. He added that he planned to meet with all supporters, even those critical of him.
Separately, Lemonjava said, “It has been proven that no imprisonment or repression can stop the resistance among the Georgian people. This struggle has only one end - the fall of the Ivanishvili regime and the victory of the people.” He emphasised the importance of forming a unified political alternative both domestically and for international partners.
