Georgian opposition figure Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, on Tuesday announced the launch of a nationwide political campaign titled “Georgia Deserves Better,” speaking at a rally held outside the Georgian Parliament in the capital city of Tbilisi.

Addressing supporters, Gvaramia said the campaign would ultimately lead to new democratic elections, while sharply criticising the current Government.

“We are starting a nationwide campaign – ‘Georgia Deserves Better’ – and it must end with new democratic elections,” he said.

Gvaramia also used the rally to address international partners, greeting figures including US Senator Marco Rubio and expressing support for Georgia’s Western allies, including the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom.

He also referred to political prisoners and Georgian emigrants, saying they were “unseen participants” in the rally and would play a visible role in the country’s future.

The protest march, organised by opposition groups, concluded outside the Parliament building in central Tbilisi.
