Nika Melia, leader of the Coalition for Changes, has dismissed any surprise over the nomination of Mikheil Kavelashvili as the ruling Georgian Dream’s presidential candidate.

Speaking about the political developments on Wednesday, Melia said “If the president of this country, the supreme commander-in-chief, Mikheil Kavelashvili, is supposed to be there, why is it surprising where Kaladze is [Tbilisi mayor and ruling party secretary-general], where Garibashvili is [the GD chair and former prime minister], where Ivanishvili [the GD honorary chair and founder] himself is?”

Melia reiterated that the opposition’s actions in the coming days were aimed at ultimately overthrowing the current government. “Everything, I repeat once again, that we will do tomorrow, the day after tomorrow and the following days will serve to shake and overthrow this regime,” he added.
